Bouvard

Bouvard is largely a rural residential locality of the City of Mandurah that is bounded by the Indian Ocean to the west, the Peel-Harvey Estuary to the east, by the suburb of Dawesville to the north and the localities of Herron and Clifton to the south. Bouvard includes the suburb of Parkridge which is situated between the Old Coast Road and the estuary.

Like the localities of Clifton and Herron, the locality of Bouvard includes the northernmost extremity of Yalgorup National Park and the northern shores of Lake Clifton. There are bush walks and bridle trails within the national park at this northern end as well as good beach fishing spots on the coast.

Between Tim’s Thicket Road and White Hill Road, there is licensed 4WD access on the beach. Unlicensed off-road vehicles are illegal in the City of Mandurah and therefore are not permitted access to beaches or bush trails.

The name Bouvard is derived from Alexis Bouvard – the French astronomer after whom French seafarers named Cape Bouvard when they sailed along the Western Australian coast in the 18th century. The Bouvard reef is also located between Mandurah and White Hills which is in the locality of Bouvard.
