Disability Access and Inclusion Plan

In 2007 the City, together with local members, agencies and the Disabilities Services Commission, developed a four year plan that identifies a number of strategies to address equality in access and inclusion for people of disabilities.

Within the City’s Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP), there are seven key outcomes that aim to provide people with disabilities with the same opportunities as other people to access:

    • Services (inc events)
    • Buildings and other facilities
    • Information (in appropriate formats)
    • Quality of service from staff
    • Feedback and complaint systems
    • Public consultations processes
    • Employment & training opportunities within the City

Overall the strategies, though specifically aimed at addressing inequalities faced by people with disabilities, also improve access for elderly people, families and those with temporary mobility-related impairments. In addition, the strategies aimed at improving quality of service and feedback and consultation processes will benefit the entire community.
