Sun, Sand & Surf

Sun Sand and Surf Package

This project was conceived by the Mandurah Coastcare Coordinating Committee. This standing  committee of the City of Mandurah sought the development of a package which would help children to make good decisions about their personal safety across a wide range of coastal environments. In doing so, the committee sought to include ethics of conservation of the coastal environment.

The project is one small part of Council's expressed commitment to Coastcare and to the principles of sustainable development. Council's Local Agenda 21 plan, Footprints Into the Future, Mandurah's Sustainable City Plan, includes preservation and understanding of the coastal environment as one of the key management issues the City faces. It is hoped that this education package will assist teachers to promote Coastcare and coastal safety within our City.

This project was jointly funded by the City of Mandurah and Coast West/Coast Care and support by the Peel South West Coastal Management Group. Coast West/ Coast Care is a nationally funded grants program which promotes a cooperative approach to coastal management between communities and local managers, and encourages solution-driven initiatives to deal with coastal protection issues and responsible, sustainable coastal use practices.

The Sun, Sand and Surf Coastal Safety Education booklet is available by contacting lisa-w@mandurah.wa.gov.au or you can download the package by clicking on the Sun, Sand and Surf icon.
