Our Pound Officer works closely and successfully with rescue groups such as K9, to reunite impounded dogs with their owners or to re-home unwanted or abandoned dogs.

Got a Dog?
Under State Legislation (The Dog Act 1976 and Regulations) all dogs from 3mths of age must be registered. The registration year commences 1 November for all dogs in Western Australia, regardless of the date the dog was first registered.
Complaints regarding Dogs
If you are attacked, see a wandering or stray dog or have a complaint about a dog related matter, please telephone 95503630 7:00am-8:00pm Monday – Sunday.
After hours calls are received by the City’s answering service and will be attended to by the next shift. All calls are strictly confidential.
REMEMBER, YOU MUST CLEAN UP AFTER YOUR DOG
It is an offence to leave your dog's excrement in any public place. The City of Mandurah provides poo pouches at many convenient locations throughout the district.
Keep one tied to your dog leash to be prepared!

Proof of sterilisation is required when applying for sterilised rate
Proof includes sterilisation certificate or previous registration with another local government for sterilised rate or if none of the above a Statutory Declaration must be completed at time of registration.
Pensioner Concession
Your current Pension Card must be produced each time a dog is registered or renewed eg. pension, invalid pension, sole parent must be written on the card – a health benefit card is not sufficient.
Registration Tags
When you register your dog with the City of Mandurah, you will receive a white tag and a coloured tag. The White tag is your dog's number for life with the City of Mandurah and is the tag that will identify the dog and allow us to contact the owner should the need arise. The coloured tag is replaced each time you renew your registration. Your dog should wear these tags at all times.

Dog registrations are not transferable between dogs, a new registration form must be filled out for each new dog.
Half price registration fees are applicable after June 1 each year but only for first registrations.
Dog Act 1976 Review - Proposed Amendments to legislation
The review of the Dog Act 1976 followed an extensive round of public consultation including the release of an Issues Paper, a Position Paper, two periods of consultation, nineteen public forums and two workshops. In total, approximately 1500 submissions were received from individuals, government and key interest groups.
From this response, 40 proposed amendments have been approved by the Government.
The proposals will now be drafted into legislation and it is anticipated that the amendments to the Act will be introduced into Parliament later in the year.

Dog Sterilsation Program
In conjunction with local veterinarians, the City of Mandurah offers a discount on the cost of dog sterilisation to residents on low incomes. Sterilisation vouchers are available only from the Ranger Services office and must be obtained prior to the desexing of your dog. The following conditions apply:
- You must be a Pensioner or Health Benefit Cardholder and your card must be produced at the time of request for a sterilisation voucher.
- The nominated dog must be registered with the City of Mandurah and presented for inspection by Ranger Services staff at the time of application.
- You must be a permanent resident of the City of Mandurah.
- One sterilisation voucher per household only.

Permission to Keep More than 2 Dogs
Written permission from the City of Mandurah is required if an owner wishes to keep more than two dogs on any one property.
Applicants must write to -
Rangers will conduct an investigation (including canvassing affected neighbours) and make a recommendation. There is no fee for this service.
Where can I take my dog? - Dog Exercise Areas, Dog Prohibited areas
Unless otherwise signposted, dogs must be walked on a leash in all public places. There are designated dog exercise areas within the City of Mandurah where your dog may be exercised off the leash (but must remain under control at all times). Barking Problems
Barking is a dog's natural means of communicating and often signifies its alertness to danger or intruders. However, a dog which persistently barks in a manner which is not considered to be normally habitual in dogs constitutes a nuisance. There may be many reasons for continual barking. Wildlife
Native fauna are often injured or threatened for a wide variety of reasons. Please contact Ranger Services who can put you in touch with a volunteer wildlife carer who is registered with the Department of Environment and Conservation. Injured wildlife should be transported to your nearest vet. Following any treatment the animal will be passed on to a carer.
Snakes are protected and should be dealt with by a trained professional. Contact Ranger Services for further information.
Stray Livestock
Stray Livestock are a danger to traffic and can cause horrific accidents. Please report incidents of stray animals to either the Police or Ranger Services.
