The City of Mandurah has formed partnerships with a number of agencies to undertake physical activity initiatives and encourage the community to partake in the necessary amount to gain health benefits. These agencies include the Premiers Physical Activity Taskforce, Healthway, Lotterywest and the Department of Sport and Recreation.
The Benefits
Physical activity is an important preventative strategy for coronary heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes, some cancers and other chronic diseases. Currently only 55% of Western Australians are sufficiently active to gain a health benefit, with 13% being classified as sedentary. For more information click here.
Benefits as a result of sufficient levels of physical activity include:
- Better health
- Improved Fitness
- Better posture and balance
- Better self-esteem
- Weight control
- Stronger muscles and bones
- Feeling more energetic
- Relaxation and reduced stress
- Continued independent living in later life
If you want to become more active and need some contact number for providers of activities call the Physical Activity Project Officer on 9550 3623.
Sufficient Levels
Just 30 minutes a day of moderate-intensity physical activity provides health benefits for adults of all ages. For more information click here.

- Think of movement as an opportunity, not an inconvenience.
- Be active every day in as many ways as you can.
- Put together at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity on most, preferably all, days.
- If you can, also enjoy some regular, vigorous exercise for extra health and fitness.
Seeking Medical Advice - although there is no age barrier to carrying out vigorous activity (children and teenagers should be following this guideline routinely), medical advice is recommended for those who have been previously inactive, who have heart disease, or close relatives with heart disease, or who have other major health problems. Vigorous activity in pregnancy is not recommended without strict medical supervision.
The City of Mandurah has a representative on the committee of the Peel Physical Activity Group and supports an integrated approach to Physical Activity. Everyone has a role from planers of parks and footpaths to health workers and community officers.
