Blue Crab Stormwater Education
Everyone can help to protect our waterways by remembering that the 'drain is only for rain'. The City of Mandurah's Blue Crab Drain Stenciling Program and Stormwater Education Package involve students in an important community awareness program for the protection of natural waterways.
This education package is designed to help students to understand the importance of managing stormwater in urban areas and keeping it clean, to minimise impacts on natural waterways. It includes resources and information for teachers and students to use both in the classroom and during an excursion. The activities are designed in booklet format for Lower, Middle and Upper Primary and available for use as printable booklets or in their electronic form.
Quandong Park in the Seascapes, Mandurah is an example of best practice Water Sensitive Urban Design. The park is an attractive, usable recreation area that also manages stormwater for local areas and is suitable for self-guided class excursions.
To involve your class in the Blue Crab Drain Stenciling Program or to organise a class visit to Quandong Park, contact the City of Mandurah as there may be sponsorship available to cover the cost of transport to the park.
