War Memorial Dedication and Consecration
The new Mandurah War Memorial formed the striking centrepiece of a moving and poignant dedication and consecration service held on Monday 18 April and attended by some 1500 people. The ceremony was officiated by His Excellency Lieutenant General John Sanderson AC, Governor of Western Australia. The service was attended by Sir Charles and Lady Court, Joe Walley Elder and custodian of the Noongar Mandjar Region, representatives of Federal and State Government and the Returned and Services League, ex service men and women, the City of Mandurah and the local community.
The ceremony including a message from the Governor General offered a fitting tribute to Australian servicemen and women and formalised the War Memorial in readiness for the Anzac Day ceremony, which in 2005 will commemorate the 90th anniversary of the landing at Gallipoli, the 60th anniversary of victory in World War Two and the 40th year since the first Australian battalion landed in Vietnam.
