Falcon

The locality of Falcon straddles the neck of land between the Indian Ocean to the west and the Peel-Harvey Estuary to the east, its southern boundary abutting Wannanup and its northern boundary abutting Halls Head (Seascapes) and Erskine. Falcon includes Avalon Beach, Cox Bay, Falcon Bay, Pelican Point, Miami, Novara Beach and Pleasant Grove.

A community hub on both sides of Old Coast Road forms a district centre comprising shopping centres, medical facilities and support services, cafes and restaurants, a sports oval and pavilion and the Falcon eLibrary and Community Centre. Falcon Family Centre also provides a range of services, programs and activities for parents and early years children and is located on Linville Street.

This locality was named after Falcon Bay and was approved as a suburb name in 1967 and gazetted in 1968. Many of the streets in the adjoining estate were named after yachts, including the yacht Falcon whose crew won a silver medal in the Melbourne Olympics in 1956.

Josephine Te-Puni Reserve, which is situated in Eldora Crescent, Falcon, was named in honour of the late Josephine Te-Puni for her contribution in protecting the natural environment of the area. A Mandurah resident for 18 years, Josephine lived close to this reserve and was actively involved in the preparation and implementation of the reserve management plan adopted by Council in 2000.

Harold Bassett-Scarfe Park, which is situated between Honeytree Place and Nutbush Avenue in Falcon, is named after the late Harold Bassett-Scarfe, who was a major land developer in the Falcon area in the 1950s.

Novara Beach Reserve is situated on Dampier Avenue, Falcon. The City of Mandurah proposed the name of the reserve after the unofficial place name of Novara Beach.

Louis Dawe Park, which is situated between Honeytree Place and Nutbush Avenue in Falcon, was named after Louis Dawe who helped establish a fish canning industry in Mandurah in the mid-1890s.
