About our Committee & Council Meetings

At the City of Mandurah, much of the Council's business is handled by its two standing committees:

  • Planning, Community Development & Sustainability Committee (that meets on the second Tuesday of every month)
  • Governance & Infrastructure Committee (that meets on the third Tuesday of every month).

As these committees do not have delegated powers to make decisions on behalf of Council, their recommendations are put before Council for a decision to be made. Council meets on the fourth Tuesday of every month .

When considering recommendations, Council may:

  • Accept the recommendation put forward and adopt it en bloc without further debate/discussion
  • Withdraw a particular item for further discussion or modification or propose that another course of action be taken
  • Defer making a decision on an item, pending further consideration/discussion at an appropriate meeting.

As such, recommendations from a committee meeting cannot be implemented until approval is given by Council.

All meetings of Council and the two standing committees are open to the public unless confidential items are being discussed. In these circumstances, a resolution will be passed by Council to discuss the confidential items behind closed doors. When this occurs, anyone in the public gallery, including press and non-essential City officers will be asked to leave.
