TRANSIT PRECINCT FOCUS OF NEW SAFETY PROJECT

29-04-2008
Ensuring use of the Mandurah transit system is a safe and enjoyable experience for the local community and visitors is the focus of the City of Mandurah’s new Community Safety Transit Precinct Project.

The transit area includes the Mandurah Foreshore Express bus service and the train and public bus systems within a 1.6 km radius of the train station.

Two new officers, Belinda Trowbridge and Jacqui Gollner, will drive the project, which has been funded for two years by the Attorney-General’s Department National Community Crime Prevention programme.

Mandurah Mayor Paddi Creevey said the first task for the project officers was to pull together a working group from a range of stakeholders, including government agencies, community groups and other interested parties.

“We want to be on the front foot in our approach to community safety and crime prevention within the transit precinct, especially now the Mandurah train line is up and running,” Mayor Creevey said.

“The focus will be on reducing crime and graffiti and helping our residents and visitors to use the transit systems with confidence.”

Anyone with comments or concerns about community safety since the opening of the train line can contact Jacqui Gollner or Belinda Trowbridge on 9550 3850.
