CITY CONTINUES ITS SUPPORT FOR K9 DOG RESCUE

29-04-2008
Mandurah Mayor Paddi Creevey presented a $3000 donation from the City of Mandurah to K9 Dog Rescue on April 15 to continue the City’s support for the non-for-profit organisation in the care and re-homing of abandoned dogs.

K9 was established in 1990 to care for abandoned, abused and mistreated dogs, and since that time has rescued and re-homed thousands of dogs as well as raising public awareness on responsible pet ownership.

Mayor Creevey praised the work of K9 and its team of dedicated volunteers during the presentation and also acknowledged the close working relationship between the City’s Rangers and K9.

“The City of Mandurah has been working with K9 Dog Rescue since its inception to help re-home unwanted dogs and abandoned litters of pups from the City’s pound each year,” Mayor Creevey said.

“K9 has been able to operate for the past 18 years through the generosity of volunteers and support from the local community, and I commend and thank all of these volunteers for their great work and all K9 supporters for their donations of money and expertise.

“I think it is admirable that a potential new owner only pays a small fee for their new pet because all dogs from K9 are vet checked, vaccinated, wormed and de-sexed.  This is made possible through the generosity and constant support of local veterinarians, local newspapers, local businesses, and other local individuals and groups.”

Senior Ranger Myra Giardini and the City’s Pound Attendant Lisa Blunsdon also attended the presentation with ‘Dodge’, star of Myra’s award-winning book ‘A Dog called Dodge’.

Copies of the book are available at K9 and the Ranger Service Office at 5 Pinjarra Road, Mandurah, with all proceeds going to the K9 Dog Rescue Group.
