‘STRETCH’ YOUR CONCEPT OF THE ARTS THIS WEEKEND

If you’re in the mood to be entertained on the weekend of May 3 and 4, the Stretch Festival is the place to be, according to City of Mandurah Mayor Paddi Creevey.

“For a start there’s non-stop free live entertainment and music at Mandjar Square.  All you need to do is bring the kids and a rug and Stretch will do the rest,” Mayor Creevey said.

From 11am until 4pm on May 3 and 4, there’s a line-up of live music, including the Sneaky Weasel Gang who will be playing on Saturday afternoon, plus the Kattidj Celebration by the Aboriginal Cultural Tourism students from the Winjan Community Centre with art workshops, traditional dance, bush food and much more until 4pm each day.

Other entertainment at Mandjar Square includes a Community First Puppet Performance, Dance Zone, Pulse Performance Company, Absolute Entertainment and Urban Measures.

Then on Sunday on the Eastern Foreshore keep an eye out for the colourful costumes, high voltage energy and frenzied percussion of the Beleza Samba Troupe, join in a free percussion workshop at 11am, and enjoy the quirky, roving street performance masquerading as some crazy Mandurah seagulls as they squabble around the foreshore.

“Mix in some very different exhibitions, an archaeological dig, story-telling, an installation made entirely of books, and you’ve got some idea of what to expect from the Stretch Festival,” Mayor Creevey said.

“It really will stretch your imagination, but I guarantee it’ll also be the greatest fun!”
