EAGLES COACH TO JOIN MANDURAH’S AUSSIE DAY CELEBRATIONS
The City of Mandurah is gearing up for a full day of celebrations on the Eastern Foreshore on Australia Day, 26 January, kicking off with a hearty $3 Aussie breakfast from 7am, courtesy of Aussie Outdoor Patio Blinds and Mandurah Lions Club.
Mandurah Concert Band, Tapestry Quartet, Karen Godfrey and Sean Read will entertain on the main stage until the official Australia Day ceremony starts at 8.30am, after which the Premier’s Awards will be presented.
Mandurah Mayor Paddi Creevey said a highlight of the day would be the Australia Day address by West Coast Eagles Coach John Worsfold.
“John is an inspirational leader in our community, and we’re thrilled he has agreed to come down to Mandurah to help us celebrate the importance of Australia Day,” Mayor Creevey said.
“What a wonderful welcome to give our newest Australians taking part in the Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony.”
Mayor Creevey said everyone was invited to come along to the ceremony and presentation of awards.
“The awards in particular give us an opportunity to publicly recognise those individuals and organisations doing outstanding work in our community,” she said.
“Then we’ll be rolling out non-stop activities throughout the day to suit all ages, from the Australia Day Flotilla and 97.3 Coast FM Beach Party, to Dolphin Quay’s special Treasure Hunt for kids and two performances of that magical, all-ages favourite, the Wizard of Oz, at the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre.
“Plus the Mandjar Markets will be open from 10am to 4pm, Dolphin Quay Markets from 3.30pm until 9pm, and 6mm and 97.3 Coast FM will be playing great Aussie music all day.”
Mayor Creevey also wanted to remind the community that fireworks will not be taking place in Mandurah.
