COME AND CELEBRATE AUSTRALIA DAY IN MANDURAH

17-01-2008
Celebrating Australia Day in true Aussie style on the beach in Mandurah is just one of many ways to mark January 26 this year, according to Mandurah Community Events and Festival Coordinator Jodie Jankevics.

“After the official Australia Day ceremony on the Eastern Foreshore, the City of Mandurah will be hosting the 97.3 Coast FM Beach Party from 10.30am to 4.00pm at Keith Holmes Reserve, near Mandurah Ocean Marina, with a wonderful line-up of entertainment,” Ms Jankevics said.

“You can watch the Allstar Mandurah Invitational State Volleyball Competition, or join in the Sandcastle Competition and win great cash prizes, from $250 for under 13s to $750 for the open category.

“Then there’s the Touch the Sun Concert from 1.45pm featuring a line-up of Aussie talent, plus a commercial-free outside broadcast by sponsor 97.3 Coast FM from 11am to 3pm and plenty of refreshments on sale.”

Ms Jankevics said, as well as the Beach Party and other activities, there was a sure-fire family favourite lined up for Australia Day.

“The Mandurah Performing Arts Centre is putting on two performances at 2.00pm and 7.30pm of that magical, irresistible production, the Wizard of Oz,” she said.

“These two shows are bound to be hugely popular so I’d strongly suggest that tickets are booked early through the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre.”

Other Australia Day activities include:

a special kids’ Treasure Hunt at Dolphin Quay where the markets are also open from 3.30pm to 9pm,

the Mandjar Markets from 10am to 4pm, and

the Australia Day Flotilla from 10.30am to 12 noon on the Mandurah Estuary.

Contact the Mandurah Offshore Fishing and Sailing Club to enter a boat in the Flotilla, or head for the Eastern Foreshore and Port Mandurah Canals for the best view and follow the ‘yellow brick road’ on the Australia Day program for endless activities on the day.

Ms Jankevics also reminded the community that no fireworks will take place in Mandurah on Australia Day.
