LIVING SMART IN MANDURAH

19-06-2008
There is still an opportunity for Mandurah residents interested in participating in the pilot Living Smart program to call the Living Smart team and register for the program by calling 9431 1864 by June 23.

Launched in April this year, the Living Smart 12-month pilot program, is a service being offered to 10,000 households in Mandurah in which residents can receive free information on how to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and save money on household bills.

Selection of the 10,000 households began on April 16 with letters delivered and phone calls made to homes in Dawesville and progressive contact being made with households throughout Mandurah and north to Madora Bay and Lakelands by June 23.

Living Smart advice covers energy and water use in the home, waste reduction and alternatives to car use, and the service also includes access to community workshops and free Home Energy and Water Consultations to identify the best savings for each household.

Mandurah CEO Mark Newman said reducing energy consumption in the home would not only help save householders money but with the current gas shortage all Mandurah residents could do their bit to help prevent an energy crisis.

“The Living Smart message is extremely important at this time,” he said.

In addition to home delivery of information, three seven-week Living Smart community courses will be held from 7.00pm to 9.00pm at the:

  • Sustainable Mandurah Home, 18 Grandmere Parade,
Meadow Springs, on Wednesdays from August 13 to September 24, 2008
  • Falcon eLibrary and Community Centre, corner Flavia Street and Cobblers Road, Falcon, on Tuesdays from Feb 24 to April 7, 2009
  • Sustainable Mandurah Home, 18 Grandmere Parade,
Meadow Springs, on Wednesdays from May 6 to June 17, 2009.

Living Smart also means creating and maintaining great waterwise and environmentally sensitive gardens so residents are also invited to attend two Great Gardens Workshops being held at the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre’s Fish Trap Theatre from 6.30pm to 9.30pm on Wednesday, July 23, and Thursday, November 6.
