CITY TO PROMOTE LOCAL GOVERNMENT AT CAREERS EXPO
Organisers anticipate that more than 1000 people will attend the careers expo to find a job or investigate a career pathway. To encourage visitors to its exhibition booth, the City of Mandurah is also running a competition for one elite membership to either the Halls Head Community Recreation Centre or Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre for three months.
The Peel Careers and Employment Expo 2008 event is offered free to participants to help:
- Promote career opportunities, career paths and apprenticeships,
- Expose local people to local job opportunities,
- Link young people with training providers, job networks and employers, and
- Involve young people in industry in telling their stories.
Mandurah Mayor Paddi Creevey said City of Mandurah officers would be available to advise on career opportunities, qualifications and application processes for people interested in joining local government.
“Some of the City of Mandurah careers featured at the expo will be Ranger and Emergency Services, Environmental Health, Recreation Services, Arts and Culture, Bushland Conservation, Environmental Services, Engineering and Planning,” Mayor Creevey said.
“If young people are unsure of what job or career direction to take in their lives the Peel Careers and Employment Expo is an excellent forum to find out lots of opportunities that are available locally.
“With almost 600 job roles to choose from, local government provides opportunities for young people to work in the job of their choice within their local community.
“Last year, more than 800 students and community members capitalised on the opportunity to access career, education, training information and employment vacancies from 37 stallholders assembled on the day so it was hailed as a great success.”
If any school is not attending the expo on June 25, but would like to know more about local government jobs and careers, school career advisors can contact Linda Crowley on 9550 3210 to arrange a school visit by the City of Mandurah.
