EXTRA FORESHORE EXPRESS STOP FOR CBD

01-07-2008
Another stop for the Mandurah Foreshore Express Bus Service will come into operation on Monday, June 30, in line with urgent recommendations adopted by Mandurah City Council to help attract visitors to the Mandurah Terrace precinct.

The extra Foreshore Express stop will be located near the existing Transperth bus stops between Tuckey and Gibson Streets close to Mandurah’s City Centre.

Mandurah Chief Executive Officer Mark Newman said the City took on about eight recommendations raised by CBD business owners at a meeting organised by the Peel Chamber of Commerce and Industry on June 16.

“Business owners aired their concerns on a number of issues relating to traffic flow in the City Centre and promotional opportunities to help attract people back into the CBD,” Mr Newman said.

“One of the recommendations was to investigate the possibility of locating a Foreshore Express stop closer to the southern end of Mandurah Terrace.”

Since Mandurah City Council adopted the recommendations, City officers approached Transperth about the possibility of sharing the bus stop between Tuckey and Gibson Streets, advised the Foreshore Express contractors about the route extension from Mandurah Train Station and the extra bus stop in Mandurah Terrace, and arranged to have temporary signage made up for the new stop.

The original Foreshore Express bus route started at Mandurah Train Station, heading west along Allnutt Street into Scott and Peel Streets, turning south into Sutton Street, west into Gibson Street and north along Mandurah Terrace to its only other stop at the Mandurah Visitor Centre.

The new route will be extended further south on Sutton Street to Tuckey Street and through to Mandurah Terrace stopping at the Transperth stop just south of the rotunda.

Mr Newman said the Foreshore Express would only take an extra couple of minutes to travel the extended route and because the usual trip only took about seven minutes, the overall time for the round trip from and to Mandurah Station would fit in with the designated three trips every hour.

The winter operating times of the Foreshore Express service are 10.00am to 5.00pm seven days a week from May through to October.
