SCITECH COMES TO LITTLE NIPPERS
Two science shows that entail 30-minute presentations combining a lively mix of explanation, interaction and amazing demonstrations of science effects are:
- The ‘Supercool Show’ where the temperature is taken down to -196 degrees Celsius and the effects of temperature change on states of matter are explored.
- The ‘Science of Slime’ where properties of fluids and some simple chemical reactions are explored by making and observing different types of slime and get a little messy along the way. Showing twice, at 1.30pm and 2.30pm.
Then there are 15 interactive and colourful exhibits that are set up in such a way that children, parents and grandparents can be entertained, enthralled, and learn fascinating principles of science and technology.
These include the thongophone, the harmonograph, the whirlpool, radar gun, laser maze, crazy suitcase, anticipation challenge, slow bubbles, Jacob’s ladder, Bernoulli blower, further but raster, up periscope, distorted mirrors, reaction timer, and SpyCam – who’s watching you.
This year’s Little Nippers festival will run from 10am to 4pm on October 19 and rather than spread the entertainment over two days as in previous years, this year’s festival concentrates all the performances during one day on the eastern foreshore making it easier to catch all the action, particularly for Mandurah visitors.
The theme is ‘Circus Fun’ and will feature circus workshops, art and craft, live music and performances from Bizircus, Chicks with Tricks, Captain Quirk and many more great street performers and artists.
Not only can kids can get gooey with Scitech, they can clown around with animals, get their faces painted, and enjoy rides, amusements and sports, circus-pony rides, have fun with bubbles, try the climbing wall, make a kite, and much more.
Presented by the City of Mandurah, Little Nippers is proudly sponsored by Healthway ‘Smarter than Smoking’, Lotterywest, Mirvac, Alcoa, Terrace Art Framers, Kim’s Toy Boys, and volunteers from Curtin University and the Mandurah community.
