AUSTRALIAN YOUTH CHOIR TO PERFORM AT LITTLE NIPPERS

15-10-2008
The Australian Youth Choir has added Mandurah to its tour list for 2008 and will perform at 1.45pm and 2.45pm on the main entertainment stage at the Little Nippers Maawit Kara Children’s Festival on the eastern foreshore this Sunday, October 19.

This year the choir, which has established a rich tradition in choral music education and performance, toured the European cities of Rome, Vienna, Barcelona, Prague, Berlin, Amsterdam and London.

Established in 1975, the choir has been on 25 international concert tours that have enabled it to develop cultural relationships with other choral groups and ensembles, including the Vienna Boys Choir, the Philadelphia Boys Choir, the New York Youth Orchestra and the Newark Boys Chorus, and has performed for Queen Elizabeth II and Pope John Paul II.

Mandurah Mayor Paddi Creevey said it was wonderful to have the choir accept an invitation to perform at Little Nippers when it was often invited to perform at major sporting events such as the Australian Football League Grand Final, the Australian Tennis Open at Melbourne Park, the Australian Formula One Grand Prix and the National Basketball League finals.

“It is also exciting to find out that from next year, the Australian Youth Choir will add Mandurah as a fourth rehearsal centre in Western Australia, so we hope to see a lot more of the choir in the future,” Mayor Creevey said.

Mayor Creevey said this year’s program for Little Nippers Children’s Festival on the theme of ‘Circus Fun’ was chock-a-block with quality entertainment, acts and activities that would take place from the aMAZEing Mandurah Tent near the boardwalk right through to the main entertainment stage on the foreshore near Tuckey Street.

“Having the Australian Youth Choir perform at this year’s festival along with other fantastic performers, such as Bizircus, ‘Natural Wings’ Trapeze, Chicks with Tricks, the Captain Quirk Circus Show and Mr Jim’s Magic Show, shows that Little Nippers just keeps improving each year,” Mayor Creevey said.

“Although Little Nippers is only being held on one day instead of two, all the resources have gone into attracting more acts, more stallholders and more community participation than in previous years.

“The Mandurah Library and Falcon eLibrary and Community Centre have even come on board holding a ‘My Pet Reads!’ photographic competition for local children with all entries to be displayed in the aMAZEing Mandurah Tent on Sunday, October 19, and there will also be heaps of fun, free art and craft sessions and storytelling at the Falcon eLibrary on Saturday, October 18.”
