Solar Library

As part of the City of Mandurah's commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and achieving our carbon neutral goal, the City of Mandurah installed a 2.1kWh solar photovoltaic system on the roof of the Falcon eLibrary and Community Centre.

The system, installed in 2009, is comprised of fifty Kaneka 60watt thin film solar panels and is estimated to generate around 5310kWh of electricity and save approximately six tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions each year. Solar is a clean way of creating energy and works by converting light energy from the sun into electrical energy. Unlike electricity sourced from fossil fuels, solar energy does not pollute our atmosphere and reduces greenhouse gas emissions.

The Australian Government is supporting households, community groups and small businesses throughout Australia to install new small scale renewable energy systems through the Solar Credits Program. To find out more, visit the Department of Climate Change’s website, http://www.climatechange.gov.au.

The City of Mandurah is committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from our own operations and assisting the community to reduce their carbon emissions. Initiatives such as this, and the Sustainable Mandurah Home, greatly assist in reducing our carbon footprint.
