2009 Australian Youth Dance Festival
Proudly Supported by the City of Mandurah
12 – 19 April 2009
The 2009 Australian Youth Dance Festival (AYDF) spins into Mandurah, Western Australia from Sunday 12 April – Sunday 19 April.
Over 200 young people, aged between 15 and 19 years, from throughout Australia will be part of a week of forums, workshops, choreographic activities and performances. The festival is led by a team of professional choreographers, teachers and dancers who will instruct the young people in a range of dance styles.
AYDF Director, Claudia Alessi is one of those West Australians for whom Mandurah was a childhood holiday destination. "We would spend six weeks in a caravan over summer - riding bikes, trampolining, swimming, beach fishing, prawning… all of those things you do when computers and nintendos don't exist", she recalls.
It is the memory of that shared experience that underpins Alessi's artistic vision for the 2009 AYDF and for the FREE outdoor performance, Foreshore Cruisin'. Witness the spectacle of 200 dancers along Mandurah Terrace, dancing in and around caravans, campervans and tents, capturing that Mandurah holiday vibe.
