Waterwise Council
The City of Mandurah was the first regional local government to be endorsed as a Waterwise Council at the official launch of the program in June 2009. The City of Mandurah joined the City of Perth in being the first local governments to be recognised as Waterwise Councils.
The Waterwise Council Program was developed by the Water Corporation and Department of Water, with support from ICLEI (International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives) – Local Governments for Sustainability. The aim of the program is to build a cooperative working relationship between state and local government to promote sound water management and improve water use efficiency. This partnership is crucial to the achievement of water savings at both the corporate and community level in the longer-term.
The Waterwise Council Program is ongoing, requiring Councils to report annually on water efficiency targets and performance to retain endorsement. The City of Mandurah is continually improving its overall water management through participation in the Waterwise Council Program and the ICLEI Water Campaign.
