YourTutor

Taking some pressure off parents
“How do you calculate the volume of a sphere?” or “What’s the difference between an element and a compound?” are probably not questions you want to hear at the end of a long day.

Parents often say that helping their child with homework in the evenings can be stressful. Students can get frustrated, tension can be high near exam times, and for some parents it has been a few years since studying those subjects themselves.

The library provides free yourtutor access - online, on-demand help from real-life local teachers and tutors. This means that when a student has a question in maths, English, writing, the sciences and more, they can get some guidance, without needing to ask mum or dad. The online tutor will never ‘give’ an answer, students will build confidence, critical thinking, and come to an answer independently, and parents are relieved of the pressure to be ‘subject experts’ after-hours.
Students can sign up for their own library member card number to sign in for free, from the library or from home. http://yourtutor.com.au/watch

Fabulous reads in April

logo for online book clubLooking for some fabulous reads to while away those lazy autumn days? The look no further, because during April the conversation is all about famous female characters.

Fiesty, feminine and fun female characters often take the front seat
when it comes to your favourites. They’re renowned for wit, charm and
brilliance, but not every heroine has to be on the ‘good guys team’.
Whether it’s Stephanie Plum, Sookie Stackhouse or Katniss Everdeen,
everyone has a favourite female character.
