Bronze Medallion Course  

Develop the level of knowledge, judgement, technique and physical ability to carry out safe water rescues.

Course Information

The RLSSA Bronze Medallion provides participants with skills and knowledge of aquatic safety, rescue and survival skills techniques and is the minimum standard for a qualified lifesaver.

The WA Police Department recognise the Bronze Medallion qualification as highly desirable for employment. This course is a pre-requisite to enrol in the Pool Lifeguard Award.

Please note: Participants require a reasonable level of fitness and swimming ability to complete this course.

Enrolment cost



None. However, it is advantageous to have completed the Bronze Star.

A medium level of aquatic fitness is required for some practical components of the Bronze Medallion.

Minimum Age Requirements

Calendar year in which the candidate turns 14.


Successful candidates will receive Bronze Medallion and Resuscitation Awards from Royal Life Saving for one year from date of certification.

What you need to bring

  • Swimwear and towel.
  • A long sleeve shirt and trousers to swim in.
  • Dry clothes for theory and resuscitation sessions
  • Photo identification
  • Your workbook
