Friday, 13 April 2018

To celebrate the completion of the Mandurah Traffic Bridge Replacement project, the City of Mandurah is inviting the community to share images of the bridges, old and new, through the Transformation Mandurah Bridge Photographic Award.

The bridge replacement project is of one of the largest infrastructure projects that Mandurah has ever experienced. The new bridge is the third bridge over the significant crossing since the first structure was built in 1894.

Throughout the important project, community members and visitors have been encouraged to share their stories and memories of the crossing.

Entries are now open into the Transformation Mandurah Bridge Photographic Award and can be submitted under three categories offering cash prizes:

  • Children, 6-14 years, $50 first prize, $25 highly commended
  • Young people, 15-25 years, $100 first prize, $50 highly commended
  • Open, $250 first prize, $100 highly commended

There is also a People's Choice Award $100 prize on offer.

Mayor Rhys Williams was excited to celebrate the completion of one of Mandurah’s largest infrastructure projects and encouraged the community share Mandurah’s bridge history.

“As we celebrate the completion of one of Mandurah’s biggest projects, this is a great way to share photos and memories of this important estuary crossing,” he said.

“Mandurah has such a rich history and bridge photo competition is a great way to celebrate our past and present.

"So dust off your photo albums and share your images of the bridges, old and new, for everyone to enjoy.”

Entries close at 5.00pm on Friday, June 1 and the awards will be presented on July 16.

Shortlisted images from the competition and chosen memories from over 800 collected at the August 2017 community bridge walkover will be exhibited from July 16-29.

The images will be exhibited at the Mandurah Community Museum from July 16-29.
