DIY energy audit kits

The City participates in Switch Your Thinking, a program that helps residents live more sustainably through practical advice, equipment, workshops, and rewards. 

Home energy audit kits are supported by Switch Your Thinking; borrow for free from Falcon, Lakelands, or Mandurah Library to understand how your home is using energy and where you can save money.

Kits include: 

  • Power meter to measure appliance usage 
  • Thermometer and draught finder 
  • Guides to help you reduce your energy use 

Perfect for: 

  • Reducing power bills 
  • Finding “energy leaks” 
  • Planning solar or battery upgrades

Free home energy assessment

Energy Ahead is a free program that helps eligible Synergy customers understand and reduce their household energy use. It’s designed for people experiencing financial stress and provides energy coaching, home or virtual audits, personalised advice and free energy‑efficient items to help lower electricity bills.  

What the program offers: 

  • Home energy audits: An Energy Coach visits your home, reviews your energy use, and provides a personalised report. Participants also receive up to $100 worth of energy‑efficient items. 
  • Phone or virtual coaching: Receive two coaching sessions to help you understand your energy use and make simple changes that reduce costs. 
  • Community workshops: These practical sessions help households save on heating, cooling, lighting, and appliance use.

Solar panels, batteries, and EVs

Many residents ask about switching to solar, adding a battery, or moving to an electric vehicle. While the City doesn’t recommend specific products, we can help you understand the basics.
