There’s less than two weeks until local streets come alive with colour, creativity and carols as the Community Christmas Pageant rolls through town.
This year’s Community Christmas Pageant, presented by Acton Mandurah, will add some sparkle this festive season with entertainment, fun activities and the opportunity to meet Santa in his special grotto on Tuesday, December 12.
Pageant entries have closed and this year more than 40 spectacular floats will travel along the route filling the streets with community and Christmas cheer from 6pm.
The Mandurah Bridge will remain open however due to roadworks in the area, the pageant route will start in Hackett Street then turn left onto Mandurah Terrace from Smart Street Mall. This route will provide more viewing points than last year. The new route will be sign posted and community volunteers will be directing people along the pageant route.
Following the pageant, the Eastern Foreshore will become a festive playground with heaps of fun things for the family.
This year’s highlights include Santa’s Grotto, live nativity scene performed by Foundation Christian College, carols, and a firework finale at 8.30pm.
Mayor Rhys Williams said the festive season was a great time to come together and celebrate Mandurah’s community spirit.
“Christmas is such a special time of year and this free celebration is a great way for everyone to come together and celebrate what is great about Mandurah – our people,” he said.
“This year’s event is shaping up to be really awesome and I can’t wait to see all the smiling faces as they watch the floats go by.”
The City of Mandurah aims for all of its events to be accessible and, for the first time, Santa will be able to communicate in Auslan.
The City is also calling for volunteers and pageant marshals to help keep the event safe and enjoyable for all.
For the safety and enjoyment of this event that draws a crowd of around 25,000 people, Local Laws now prohibits any dog attending major City of Mandurah events so please leave pets safely at home.
Staged road and water closures will be in place from 2.30pm until 9.00pm.
