Wearable Art Mandurah is back again for another year.
This year, 60 entries have been received from across Australia and overseas including New Zealand, America and Romania, with 43 garments going through to the final round of judging at the showcase event in June.
When Wearable Art Mandurah began in 2011 it attracted 13 entries. It now attracts entries from professional and amateur artists, using everything from milk bottles, stubby coolers, mop heads, seaweed, bubble wrap, doilies, nappy liners, rubber gloves, dusk mask, x-rays, gum nuts and coffee pods to create revolutionary works of art.
Once again the awards showcase will feature the amazing garments as living, breathing works of art for the body in a spectacular family friendly production with music, theatre and dance.
City of Mandurah Mayor Rhys Williams said each year I’m absolutely blown away by the quality of the garments and this year is no different.
“Over the years Wearable Art Mandurah has established itself as a premier event, attracting entries from across the globe, showcasing the city as a cultural hub to local, national and international audiences.
“This year we’re again very excited to be working with some outstanding people to help elevate the showcase to yet another level.
“If you haven’t experienced Wearable Art before, I encourage you to bring your friends and family for a great night out,” Mr Williams said.
Wearable Art Mandurah provides a platform for professional artists, amateurs, young people and people with disabilities to demonstrate their creativity. This year entrants and guests will be travelling from Romania, New Zealand and around Australia including two youth entrants from Queensland and a school party of 10 from Cairns.
Wearable Art Mandurah has secured the support of some great sponsors and supporters including WA Opera, Mandurah Performing Arts Centre, Stephen Heath Photography, Metro Modelling, Onyx Hair and Beauty, Seashells Resort, Western Australian Fibre and Textile Association (WAFTA) and Powertex Australia.
The Wearable Art Mandurah Awards Showcase will be held at the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre (MPAC) on Saturday, 15 June at 6:30pm with a matinee event on Sunday, 16 June at 2pm. For more information or to buy tickets visit www.wearableartmandurah.com.
