Young artists stand side by side with their awards

The winners of the City of Mandurah’s Masterpieces 2K24 Youth Competition and Exhibition have been announced, with young artists celebrated for their incredible artworks across a variety of mediums.

More than 70 pieces by 66 artists including painting, drawing, sculpture and digital media are now on show at Contemporary Art Spaces Mandurah (CASM) in the Masterpieces 2K24 Exhibition, showcasing the works of local emerging artists aged 12 – 25 years. The exhibition will be open until Sunday, May 12.

The annual Masterpieces competition and exhibition is an opportunity for young Mandurah artists to have their works presented at a professional gallery. This year’s winners were announced during opening night on Friday, 5 April where more than 80 people attended.

The winners of the Masterpieces 2K24 competition are:

12-15 years category:
• First – Harlow Paton for Starry Eyed
• Second – Seoyoung (Susie) Moon for Hollow Wanderer
• Third – Rio Toeller-Neenan for White Dreams

16-18 years category:
• First – Matilda Bingham for An Idle Forest is but a Child’s Playground
• Second – Zack Pickett for As We Get Older
• Third – Hana Giltrap for ikigai

19-25 years category:
• First – Anna Lansdown for King’s Clearing
• Second – Kaelin Jansen van Rensberg for Maine
• Third – Samuel Swadling for The Martyred

Digital media award:
• First – Hiruni Premaratne for Missing Dogs
• Second – Elsie Edward for His Good Side
• Third – Jess Tomlinson for Coyote Huntress

The Masterpieces program includes a three-month Youth Artist Residency at CASM, sponsored by Headspace Mandurah. Emma Purkis will be in the CASM studio from April to June.

The Masterpieces program started in 2014 and has since supported more than 450 emerging Mandurah artists and provided more than $35,000 in cash and materials to support the growth and development of Mandurah’s creative artists.
