The community’s long-term vision, goals and priorities for Mandurah are at the centre of a new Strategic Community Plan, launched by the City of Mandurah on August 30 as a roadmap for the City’s growth and development over the next decade.
This plan, developed in partnership with local people, sets a bold vision for Mandurah's future, turning the community’s ideas into actions that shape the City’s strategies and future planning to help pave a prosperous path forward for everyone.
Propelled by the vision “woven by waterways; a city that is thriving and connected to its people and nature”, the plan focuses on key areas of economy, community, environment, and leadership to guide the City’s direction.
Mayor Rhys Williams said the updated Strategic Community Plan had been shaped by the community, for the community, and set a clear vision for Mandurah’s future.
“Mandurah has come so far and changed vastly since its days as a fishing village, with close to 100,000 people now calling Mandurah home,” Mayor Williams said.
“Some of our biggest challenges are around how we cater for our projected population growth and evolve our local economy while continuing to care for our community and be mindful of our precious natural environment.
“Close to 4000 people were involved in shaping this updated plan, and their input was invaluable in helping us to hone our focus and resources to create a city we all want to see in the future. These priorities will guide our decision making now and into the future."
Some of the long-term projects the City is focusing on to achieve the vision for the future include the Waterfront Redevelopment, the Western Foreshore Leisure Precinct, Yalgorup National Park eco-tourism project, establishing an Aged Care Centre of Innovation and exploring the need for a new Mandurah Library and Learning Hub.
The City’s Strategic Community Plan is reviewed with the community every four years to ensure evolving priorities continue to be captured in the City’s forward planning. The Big Check-In in 2023 helped the City to understand and define what is important to the community today, which is reflected in the updated Strategic Community Plan 2024-2044.
This plan is a guiding document for the City’s planning, including the Corporate Business Plan which details the specific actions to be taken by the City to achieve the vision for the future.
