The next stage of works to create vibrant, connected community spaces at Coodanup Foreshore will start this month, complementing the significant upgrades already completed at the popular waterfront location.
Since 2023, the Coodanup Foreshore has been transforming to reveal better connectivity, upgraded amenities, and refreshed spaces through a staged project spanning the length of the foreshore along Peel Parade.
The foreshore improvements have so far included a new playground, picnic shelters, tables, barbecues, bike racks, turfed areas and plants, path connections, plus an extension to the existing basketball half court, delivered through previous stages of the project.
The next phase of works (Wanjeep Street to the playground) will focus on formalising the car park space, new concrete pathways, installing picnic and viewing areas, more park furniture and amenities, plus creating better accessibility to the Peel Harvey Estuary. A new ‘yarning circle’ will also be created, recognising the significance of this area and the Peel Harvey Estuary (Djilba) to the Bindjareb Noongar people.
Mayor Caroline Knight said the overall project aimed to create enhanced, relaxed spaces for locals and visitors to meet, while respecting the significant natural environment in the area.
“Coodanup Foreshore is a popular spot for people to come together, from family gatherings, play-based activities, relaxing by the water, and of course visiting one of our incredibly popular Giants, Yaburgurt Cirkelstone, who looks out over the water,” Mayor Knight said.
The foreshore car park in this area (nearest Wanjeep Street) and pathways along the water will be closed during the works, however access to the Giant will remain open, apart from some short closures that may be needed. These stage three works are expected to be completed by August 2025.
