Food Business Approvals and Training

The requirements your food business will need to meet will vary depending on if your business is:

  • new food business
  • taking over a pre-existing business
  • residential kitchen
  • bed and breakfast
  • family day care
  • food stall

Food businesses are regulated under the Food Act 2008 and associated Food Safety Standards.

Food businesses are put into risk levels of:

  • LOW – eg: residential kitchens, bed and breakfast. Inspected annually
  • MEDIUM – eg: commercial restaurant, take-away, café. Inspected bi-annually
  • HIGH – eg: child care centers, aged care facilities. Inspected bi-annually

Annual registration fees are determined according to risk.
