Join us at Falcon eLibrary and Community centre to hear Edward Bowman talk about his book A year in the life of a Vietnam adviser.

A Year in the Life of a Vietnam Adviser is a novel based on the author’s many experiences as an Australian Warrant Officer who served in Vietnam as an Adviser with an Infantry Battalion of ARVN and a Platoon Commander with the American Special Forces.

During 1965-66, the first great build-up of American military commenced. The number of enemy contact incidents increased, as did the number of casualties. The ARVN were stretched to the limit, with the training of its junior officers limited. Special Forces units in remote areas recruited and trained the local hill people, referring to them as the Popular Forces. Brutalities such as torture and executions by sections of troops from both sides were not unusual.
