About the Event
Renowned World War One researcher Sandra Playle will present They Went with Songs to Battle, an in-depth exploration of Australia’s role in the war, with a focus on the exhumation and reburial of soldiers at Pheasant Wood.
The presentation is divided into two parts:
- Part One examines the lead-up to the Battle of Fromelles, the battle itself, and the powerful stories uncovered during research and the 2009 Fromelles Dedication Ceremony.
- Part Two delves into the battle’s aftermath, including initial burials, later excavations, and recovered artefacts. It also highlights key figures involved and concludes with a touching letter from a Corporal to his wife and daughter.
