Mandurah’s momentum, ignited through the 2020/21 Restart Mandurah Plan, shows no signs of slowing down with the proposed new budget for 2021/22 promising to further reinvigorate the economy and deliver a brighter future for the city.

Mandurah Council is preparing to adopt a new budget in the coming weeks, with money allocated to a number of key projects throughout the city all designed for Mandurah’s transformation.

Mayor Rhys Williams said there were many exciting projects being delivered in Mandurah, and the new budget would continue to drive the great work that’s already been achieved.

“The Transform Mandurah plan that we’ve set into motion is all about attracting new investment into the city over the next decade, and addressing structural unemployment both for today, and for future generations,” Mayor Williams said.

“As part of this plan, we’ll be allocating resources to work with private sector to attract investment into our city, and we’ll be working with politicians from all levels of government to make sure we get the investment we need to diversify our economy.

“In this new budget, we’re proposing to allocate $3million towards continuing the Mandurah Waterfront project, which is the first cab off the rank for Transform Mandurah. Things are really taking shape on the Western Foreshore and in the City Centre, so we’re keen to see this $22million project progressing to make the most of our prime waterfront locations.

“We’ve also put money aside for upgrades to Dawesville’s south-east foreshore, and design and planning works for the Dawesville Community Centre. We want to make sure that our southern corridor has the amenities that are needed for the population growth that’s expected for the area.

“Upgrades will also continue on Mandurah’s main entry road, Pinjarra Road, with $1.5million allocated to continue this important road rejuvenation project, giving it the long overdue facelift it deserves.

“Other budget items include our incredible activations and events including the ever-popular Christmas celebrations, community safety, environmental projects, offering grants to our community groups, and maintaining the City’s $1.3billion asset portfolio.

“This all amounts to connecting our community together, and giving people even more opportunities to get out and about and enjoy their local areas.”

At a special council meeting on May 11, Council voted to advertise a 1.80 percent increase to rates, which equates to an additional amount of $28.80 per year for the average residential ratepayer. The proposed increase will be advertised for 21 days. If you would like to have your say on the 2021/22 Proposed Rate for Advertising, submissions are accepted via email to: council@mandurah.wa.gov.au
