Elderly man is assisted by aged care worker

The City of Mandurah has partnered with the local ageing and disability support industry to help people get job ready with free training.

The Ageing and Disability Job Ready Program is a five-week course delivering nationally accredited training, set to equip people with the skills and experience to enter one of the state’s fastest-growing workforces.

The program will fast track job seekers with a pathway to entry-level employment and/or further training in the industry, starting with five weeks of classroom-based training starting in October.

Participants can then gain hands-on industry experience through work placement with an aged care or disability support employer.

Mayor Rhys Williams said the course was an example of how the City supports the community through capacity building programs.

“The ageing and disability sectors are two of the fastest-growing areas of healthcare in Western Australia, so for anyone who has been thinking about entering the field, now is your perfect chance,” Mayor Williams said.

“Given the shortage of disability and aged care workers in Mandurah and across the state, this program is a great way to build up the skills of our local workforce and get people ready for some important roles within our community and beyond.

“One of the key opportunities identified as part of our Transform Mandurah agenda is to build the capacity of our local aged care workforce, and this program is one of the ways we’re acting on our future prospects.”

Those interested in joining the program can register their interest now and attend an information session on Wednesday, October 11 at Lakelands Park Community Centre at 10am.

The training runs for two days per week over five weeks and allows participants to complete five units of competence towards a Certificate III.
