The City of Mandurah’s leadership and dedication to community service was in the spotlight earlier this month after Elected Members and staff received multiple accolades.
Off the back of Mandurah’s gold win at Australia’s Top Tourism Town awards on September 14, the City took out various awards and recognition this month for excellence in local government service.
Mayor Rhys Williams said the awards highlighted Mandurah’s leadership efforts and dedication towards making Mandurah a better place.
“It’s an honour to be able to serve the wonderful community of Mandurah, and these awards reinforce the City’s commitment to providing high-quality leadership and service to the community and local government sector,” Mayor Williams said.
“It’s been a big couple of weeks for Mandurah! Congratulations to all the winners for some very well deserved recognition in making Mandurah the best place to live, work, play and visit.”
Three of Mandurah’s Elected Members scooped awards at WALGA’s Local Government Convention on September 17 as part of the Local Government Honours Program, recognising and celebrating outstanding achievements and contributions.
Mayor Williams received the 2023 Troy Pickard Young Achievers Award for his exceptional contributions and commitment to local government; Deputy Mayor Caroline Knight received the Local Government Merit Award for outstanding service to the community; and Councillor Don Pember received the Eminent Service Award for his significant contributions to local government.
Councillor Amber Kearns was also presented with her Diploma of Local Government achievement.
“Our Elected Members have contributed so much to strengthening our community and Council, and these recognitions are a testament to this,” Mayor Williams said.
At the LG Professionals WA Community Development Awards held on September 14, the City’s Executive Manager of Community Services Tim Hartland was recognised with the Community Development Meritorious award for long-term service and excellence in the community development sector within local government.
Mr Hartland, who has worked in the local government sector for more than 20 years, currently oversees several community development functions at the City of Mandurah including arts and culture, library and museum services, youth development and seniors. His leadership has seen many pivotal initiatives and strategies come to life including Community Safety, and the sector-led Homelessness Strategy.
