Two new murals celebrating community connections and the local environment have been created by experienced WA artists during the Mandurah Arts Festival, presented by the City of Mandurah.
Blank spaces at Henson Reserve and Contemporary Art Spaces Mandurah (CASM) have been transformed into stunning works of art, highlighting Mandurah’s vibrant community, culture, and natural beauty.
The new murals are part of 10 public art pieces the City of Mandurah is delivering over five years to activate and enhance community areas; a key action from the City’s Arts and Culture Strategy. Four stunning murals have already been created at Falcon Bay, Mandurah Library, and Mandurah Bridge as part of previous arts festivals.
Mayor Caroline Knight said the murals were a welcome addition to Mandurah’s growing art scene and would encourage community connections at popular public spaces. “We have made a concerted effort to boost Mandurah’s public art scene, because we know art and cultural offerings have a unique way of bringing people together to build vital connections,” Mayor Knight said.
Artist Haylee Fieldes, who has spent many holidays in Mandurah, has brightened the walls of the ablution block at the seaside Henson Reserve, taking inspiration from Mandurah’s coastal and marine life. Her work reflects the natural beauty of the area, using a modern and bright colour palette.
The exterior walls of CASM’s workshop have been transformed into a celebration of cultural heritage, artistic passion, and community spirit by artist Jerome Davenport. Taking inspiration from the people who use the workshop space, the design reflects the essence of the space, its creative purpose and the cultural significance of the site. It also aligns with CASM’s new-look branding. Jerome has previously created a stunning mural on an exterior wall at the Mandurah Museum.
